Crochet - away!!!!!!

My attempt at crochet. The first row is a real bu**er, I don't think I like it. And it takes AGES! I was using very thin wool (sock wool) and a small hook (3.5mm) I suppose. And it still made my finger hurt, the thumb wasn't too bad. The instructions are hard to understand too. I don't know, I can't decide. I'll give it another go later.

Oooo, yes, sock yarn is small, which would make it take longer. Hmmm, your little finger hurts? Are you balancing the hook with that finger? Maybe try to relax the finger, not use it actively with the hooking. Hold it up in the air, very proper-like! ;^)

Seriously, give yourself a break and practise with larger yarn and hook, and work loosely. Just to get the feel of it. I think crochet is funny--a bunch of loops. I always feel as though I'm pulling loop, loop, loop, through the loop, loop, loop. LOL But you can get some lovely results.

Aw, shame it didn't go too well. I'd definitely agree about trying with thicker yarn. I'm using aran weight and a 6mm hook and not doing too badly. I'm only making v basic Granny squares though.

I'm sorry it still hurts but as has been said I think thicker yarn is the way to go when you are starting a craft. It looks good to me.
